Les Woad Memorial History
The Les Woad is an annual hockey tournament founded in 1991 after the tragic passing of Les in a car accident. The event is played every year in March and signifies the closing to the hockey season for the Black Street Aces.
The unique feature of this Memorial Tournament is the four teams, four games, four trophies and four fallen Aces theme.
- Four Teams - Despite consideration to expand this popular tournament, we have stayed true to our roots to keep the event friendly and practical to run.
- Four Games – Everyone gets to play four games irrespective of team placement. Each team either goes to the Championship game or the Consolation game.
- Four Trophies – The closing ceremony sees four trophies awarded to the Most Valuable Player, Most Valuable Defenseman, Most Gentlemanly, and the Team Championship Trophy.
- Four Fallen Aces – These memorial trophies are named after Les Woad, Albert MacLean, John Hutton and Bill Graham who left us far too early in their hockey lives.
The tournament is a fun event each year and has managed to raise thousands of dollars in charity funds since its inauguration which has been a hallmark of Black Street Aces history.
